Achieving durable and reliable adhesion for self-adhering membranes is paramount, especially in demanding applications or cooler weather. The Protecto #100 VOC Primer, available from A1A Wholesale Supply, is an essential component in ensuring the optimal performance of Protecto Wrap’s waterproofing, air/vapor barrier, and flashing systems.
This primer is a high-tack, SBS rubber-based formula specifically recommended for vertical applications of various Protecto Wrap products, particularly when surface temperatures are between 20∘F and 40∘F. It acts as a bonding agent, significantly enhancing adhesion to a wide range of substrates.
Recommended Uses & Compatible Products:
- Jiffy Seal 140/60 & JS500: For vertical applications between 20∘F and 40∘F.
- PW100-60, PW100-40, Energy Plate Liner, Sill Sealers: For vertical applications between 20∘F and 40∘F.
- Ice & Water Guard: For concrete or metal surfaces.
- Rainproof-40 & 60: For concrete or masonry surfaces.
- EIFS/Stucco Tape: For temperatures under 32∘F, or for concrete or masonry surfaces.
- Protecto Seal 45: To enhance adhesion on weathered surfaces; in cold weather; and to concrete, metal, and steel surfaces.
Key Features and Benefits for Contractors:
- Enhanced Adhesion: Provides excellent adhesion to steel, concrete, wood, and Protecto Wrap membranes.
- Cold Weather Performance: Specifically formulated for vertical applications in temperatures between 20∘F and 40∘F.
- High Tack: Ensures a strong initial bond.
- Fast Drying: Tack-free in 15-45 minutes, allowing for efficient project progression.
- Versatile Compatibility: Works with a wide range of Protecto Wrap membranes and tapes.
- VOC Compliant: Meets environmental regulations.
Directions for Use:
- Preparation: Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of dirt, dust, loose concrete, or other contaminants. Broom, vacuum, or use high-pressure clean dry air for cleaning. Thinning the primer is not recommended.
- Application:
- Apply primer to all surfaces by roller or brush, ensuring a uniform coat.
- Primed surfaces must be free of runs, puddles, or excessive primer to prevent blistering. Brush or roll out any puddles or drips immediately.
- Prime only as much area as can be covered in half a day’s work. Re-prime any areas not covered within this time with a light coat of #100 VOC Primer.
- For all vertical applications over 8′ in height with surface temperatures between 20∘F and 40∘F: Apply a second coat of primer to the top ten inches (10″) of the surface to be covered. The membrane can be applied when the second coat is tacky, but not wet.
- For block wall applications: Apply a heavy coat of #100 VOC Primer and allow it to fully cure. Apply a second coat to the top ten inches (10″) of the block wall. The membrane can be applied when the second coat is tacky, but not wet.
Storage:
- Store in accordance with regulations for flammable liquids.
- Store between 40∘F (4∘C) and 120∘F (49∘C) in original, unopened containers, out of weather and direct sunlight.
- Store in a dry, well-ventilated area away from heat and all sources of ignition. Store away from oxidizers and acids.
- Replace lids on opened containers when not in use to reduce solvent evaporation.
- Shelf life is a minimum of one year.
Safety Precautions:
- Flammable: Flash Point of 69∘F. Handle with care and keep away from heat, sparks, and flame.
- Wear gloves and safety glasses.
- Ensure the work area is well ventilated.
- Clean up with mineral spirits, xylene, toluene, or acetone.
